I was at the Featherston Booktown 2017 and met legend Joy Cowley! I was so happy to be able to actually talk with her and ask for some advice. I mentioned I was writing two books at the same time as I have all these ideas in my head and she gave me the best advice ever!
She said:
"Ben, when you are writing a book, focus on that book. If you have an idea for a different book, write it down on a piece of paper and then come back to it once you have finished the book you are writing. That's what I do."
Thank you, Joy Cowley. Great to meet you.

Look who I went to see in Wellington!! Andy Griffiths!! And he invited me and my book to come to the Tree House with him!! Andy is an Australian children's book author and comedy writer. He is most notable for his Just! series which was converted to a TV series called "What's with Andy". And of course all the TreeHouse books! |
Cool!! After meeting Andy in Wellington and giving him one of my books - Weirdo, he sent me an email!!! Yay!!
"Hi Ben,
It was great to meet you in Wellington. Sorry for the slow reply but I’ve been busy constructing another 13 levels for the treehouse. Thanks so much for the copy of Weirdo, it’s a really cool book with lots of action and surprise and I really like the fun way you’ve presented it with plenty of pictures and interesting fonts. I hope you continue to enjoy your writing—and reading—and enjoy a lifetime of adventures, both real and imaginary!
Your pal,
Andy"

Earlier this year I was chosen with others from my school to participate in a "Writing Project" with Oscar Kightley. It was lot of fun and last week I went to see him at the library. He congratulated me on my new book Weirdo! Thank you Oscar for being such a great inspiration to me!
Oscar is a New Zealand actor, TV presenter and writer. |
